Day 7 on the Tour: Boyne City for a 5-Chamber Event!

Well it’s taken about a week for us to make our way up to the “top” of the Tour, Boyne City.  If you look at the map of our stops (www.fivesparrows.com/Tour), you can see that this is the northernmost point on the Tour, and on Monday we will begin heading south down the east side of Michigan’s lower peninsula.

The “Social Networking for Business” seminar was a 5-Chamber event sponsored by the Boyne, Petoskey, Charlevoix, Elk Rapids, and East Jordan Chambers of Commerce. We had a wonderful turn out at the 220 Lake Street Restaurant, for what we have been jokingly referring to as the “drink and learn” seminar (a term coined by Jim Baughman, the Boyne Chamber Director).

Once again, there were lots of great questions from people at various levels of familiarity with social networking – several people already had a Facebook business page set up, but no one was using multiple social platforms together in an integrated way.

Since we were presenting the seminar in a restaurant, there of course was not a projector and screen set up, so we used our “mobile” seminar setup (a projector, wireless internet hot spot, and a vintage screen).  Our “vintage” screen probably qualifies as some sort of antique, since it belongs to my dad who bought it when he was in the Navy in the 1950s.  I sat through many slide shows as a kid watching that screen!  But after all this time it is still in pristine condition, and it was kinda cool to display live internet information -  from my laptop –  through a wireless connection – onto a screen designed for 1950s slides made from photographs!
